Packers explore a young cornerback option with a thin spot on the depth chart demanding attention
Green Bay is working out former Atlanta Falcons defensive back Cobee Bryant on Tuesday.
The Green Bay Packers are exploring options on the market for cornerback depth, as the team decided to work out Cobee Bryant on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The former first-team All-Big 12 cornerback is available after the Atlanta Falcons released him, and the timing lines up with a minor scare in Green Bay’s secondary.
Bryant is a 6-1, 175-pound cornerback who went undrafted in 2025 and signed with the Falcons. He spent part of his rookie season on Atlanta’s practice squad, then earned a promotion to the active roster in November. He played seven games for the Falcons as a rookie.
This year, Bryant spent training camp and the preseason with Atlanta again. The Falcons waived him during final roster cuts, brought him back to the practice squad, and then released him two days later. So now he is available, and the Packers could potentially sign him.
Rookie struggles, strong college résumé
It wasn’t necessarily a smooth first NFL season for Bryant. He finished his rookie year with a 38.1 coverage grade, via PFF, and allowed a 142.6 passer rating when targeted. Those numbers explain why Atlanta didn’t keep him around.
But the college résumé tells a different story. Bryant played four years at Kansas and earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in each of his final three seasons. That kind of consistent production in a Power 4 conference is the reason teams keep checking in on him. The San Francisco 49ers had also worked him out earlier this season.
It’s natural that general manager Brian Gutekunst would explore young options like this. Bryant is 25 years old, so he could fit as a developmental player who already has some NFL experience. Green Bay wouldn’t be asking him to start. Instead, he would be another body to compete for a role at the bottom of the rotation, or even more likely on the practice squad.
Rookie second-round cornerback Brandon Cisse left the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a neck injury. However, head coach Matt LaFleur said it’s not a long-term issue, and Cisse has already cleared the concussion protocol. Bryant wouldn’t be an option for this week anyway, so this is probably more about keeping the scouting database updated than anything about Cisse’s injury status.
Nonetheless, the Packers are still exploring ways to reinforce the position. And that’s because the depth chart doesn’t leave much margin for error. Besides Cisse, Green Bay has four other cornerbacks on the 53-man roster: Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Benjamin St. Juste, and Kamal Hadden. The Packers also have Domani Jackson, a sixth-round rookie, on the practice squad.
