‘They’re not going to last’ – Former Georgia Bulldogs star doubles down on his non belief in the Tennessee Vols
The Tennessee Vols are 4-1 through the first five games of the season, but ther are concerns about the team’s quarterback situation.
The Tennessee Vols are off to a 4-1 start this season. Their only blemish so far is a 20-17 loss to the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.
Tennessee’s offense hasn’t played well the last two weeks, but the defense has been elite.
As a result, there are two lines of thinking when it comes to the Vols: you either think Tennessee can be a College Football Playoff contender if the offense gets right, or you think the Vols are a pretender because the offense isn’t good enough.
Former Georgia Bulldogs star David Pollack falls in the second group.
“Tennessee’s not a playoff team by any stretch of the imagination,” said Pollack after Tennessee’s win over Auburn last weekend.
Pollack doubled down on that take this week by calling Tennessee a “pretender.”
The former Georgia standout mentioned the Vols’ quarterback situation as a reason for his take.
“I know they made the QB switch,” said Pollack while labeling Tennessee as a pretender. “You saw them against Auburn — it was a solid performance — but it was not elite by any stretch. They’ve got QB issues. They’ve got a schedule coming up that’s brutal. They’re not going to be able to be one-dimensional.
“I think their defense is really, really improved. But they’re not going to last right here where they’re at. I just don’t see them being there for long. I think with the quarterback issues — which we never see from them, by the way, they’re always so good at the quarterback spot — I don’t see them holding strong.”
Pollack may end up being correct, but I think it’s still too early to call your shot with this Tennessee team. I think we need to see more from the quarterbacks before we can really have a good idea of what the Vols’ ceiling is this season. (George MacIntyre will start this weekend against Arkansas after Faizon Brandon was benched last week. Brandon is also dealing with a shoulder injury.)
