Former Alabama star leaves no doubt on how he feels about Kalen DeBoer telling Dijon Lee that he cost Bama the game against Georgia
Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer let Dijon Lee hear it for his miscue against the Georgia Bulldogs.
The lasting image from Alabama’s loss to Georgia (outside of the missed defensive pass interference call) is easily Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer’s verbal undressing of defensive back Dijon Lee.
Lee was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty late in the fourth quarter that essentially sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
DeBoer lost it on Lee after the penalty was announced. The Alabama head coach appeared to tell Lee that he cost the team the game.
There’s been a mixed reaction to the way DeBoer reacted to Lee’s miscue. Some think he crossed the line by telling a player that he cost Alabama the win.
Others think DeBoer was right to hold Lee accountable in a public way.
Former Alabama running back Damien Harris falls into the second category.
“In my humble opinion this is one of the best moments of the Kalen DeBoer era,” tweeted Harris. “This is the type of accountability that establishes culture!!!! The passion from Coach DeBoer — the players and HaHa (Clinton-Dix) forcing 5 (Lee) to receive the message. This is what GREAT teams do. Win or loss, this is what the Alabama Standard looks like. This team is going to be so much better because of this moment!”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Lee responds when Alabama travels to Knoxville next Saturday for a big matchup against Tennessee.
