The Third Saturday in October is coming this weekend, with the Alabama Crimson Tide coming to Knoxville to face the Tennessee Vols.

It’s a game that sees Neyland Stadium crank up the decibel level a couple of spots every other year, with the venue getting so loud even Alabama play-by-play announcer Chris Stewart accused the university of piping in crowd noise a couple of years ago before walking it back.

And Josh Heupel is calling for Tennessee’s fans to do their part again on Saturday. During his opening statement, he called on Vol fans to get into Neyland Stadium early, like they did against Texas, and take advantage of half-priced happy hour to, well, “get hydrated” as he put it.

Josh Heupel tells Vol fans to get to Neyland Stadium early during happy hour before the Alabama game and to ‘get hydrated’

“Third Saturday in October coming up here. Great opportunity, playing a really good football team. You look at how they’re playing, all three phases of the game. Huge test for us, but one we’re looking forward to.

“Encourage our fans to take advantage of half-priced happy hour, and get hydrated for the football game on Saturday afternoon.”

Under Heupel, Tennessee is a perfect 2-0 at home against the Crimson Tide, winning two classics. The Vols stormed back to win on a walk-off field goal 52-49 over the No. 2 Crimson Tide in 2022, snapping a 15-game losing streak to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide before a madhouse scene in Knoxville. Two years later, Tennessee took the lead in the fourth quarter and held on to win 24-17.

There’s zero doubt that the Neyland effect is real, and the Vols will need to squeeze every drop of juice out of the advantage that Tennessee fans provide to come away victorious again on Saturday afternoon.
