Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell sends firm statement about how he feels about the NFL trade deadline
The NFL trade deadline is approaching, and the Minnesota Vikings are primed to make a major move to fortify the roster.
The Minnesota Vikings are 5-0 coming out of their bye week, and all anyone can talk about is the trade deadline. It’s the first trade deadline with general manager Nolan Teasley at the helm and that’s where the intrigue comes into play.
Over head coach Kevin O’Connell’s tenure as the Vikings’ head coach, they have made trades ahead of the deadline in three of his four seasons.
- 2022: TE T.J. Hockenson
- 2023: QB Josh Dobbs
- 2024: LT Cam Robinson
This year is very similar to 2022 and 2024, as the Vikings have started red hot and will be wanting to fortify the roster.
Kevin O’Connell comments on trade deadline
The real intrigue about the trade deadline isn’t about how much talent they will acquire, but rather where they acquire it. There are positions where they are more loaded with talent and others that need depth added to.
No matter where the Vikings choose to add, O’Connell is confident in what Teasley will do.
“I think it’s important that I got a lot of confidence in this team right now, and I also have a lot of confidence in Nolan and his staff,” said O’Connell.
There are many who share in that belief with O’Connell, but it’s something where we want to see it before we truly believe it. They also need to be careful balancing out how much talent they add in versus focusing on building in next year’s NFL Draft.
“I know it seems like it’s months and months and so many months away, but to give him a really powerful draft to be able to really put his imprint on this team, I think is important too,” O’Connell continued. “So we’re going to have to really gauge what’s best for our team in the present day, and that’s with a lot of confidence in our group. But also, it feels crazy to say this as the coach. I want to make sure that we’re as smart as possible, just because I have so much confidence in what that group and Nolan specifically are going to be able to do when it comes time to add to our team in the off-season.”
The way things are going right now with the Vikings is good and it could be better. How better will it be? Time will answer that question, and Teasley will be putting his stamp on this franchise.
