Now that the season is over for the Cleveland Browns, they’ve made their first bit of offseason moves.
Cleveland was on the wrong end of a 45-14 beat down via the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round.
On Monday, the Browns signed nine players to reserve/futures contracts. All nine of these players were on the practice squad for the team in 2023.
Signed on Monday by Browns
WR Jaelon Darden
CB Vincent Gray
RB John Kelly Jr.
TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden
T Justin Murray
DE Lonnie Phelps
LB Charlie Thomas III
DE Isaiah Thomas
DT Chris Williams
Out of these players, Cleveland brought in Phelps and Thomas as rookie undrafted free agents last spring. Thomas was a seventh-round draft pick of the Browns in 2022.
These players will not join the team until the new league year begins in March. The deal keeps the players with said team to be able to train with them in the offseason.
You often see training camp-level players and practice squad players end up with said deals. Teams around the NFL look at these players as developmental pieces. Expect a few of these players to have a chance to stick with Cleveland throughout the offseason and into training camp.
