The injury to Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb had folks around the NFL releasing their takes on the unfortunate happening.
Miami Dolphins All-Pro wideout Tyreek Hill felt for the running backs like Chubb who take on tough injuries that have them missing a large amount of time.
“Nick Chubb, Saquon Barkley, all those guys getting hurt in the same weekend is crazy,” Hill said on his podcast, It Needed To Be Said.
Chubb now will miss the entire 2023 season and the future after that will depend on how his injury goes.
Thankfully for Chubb’s sake, he is a vested veteran and will be paid his full salary for the season. The running back position right now is one that NFL teams aren’t valuing like they used to. Contracts are shrinking and guaranteed money is hard to get.
“Sometimes you have to put business before football. You have to protect yourself, that’s just how the game goes,” Hill explained. “Especially if you’re a running back. I feel like since they seen Todd Gurley’s situation, they’re like ‘I’m not paying anyone else’”.
After next season, Chubb can be cut by the Browns for just a $4 million cap hit. He will be a free agent following the 2024 season, so there will definitely be decisions to work through.
Hill is just one player who is speaking out for the running backs publicly. Running backs around the NFL will certainly bring the thought of Chubb’s injury to the negotiating table.
