Ryan Grubb just did himself no favors after calling out fans who booed the Alabama Crimson Tide offense early against FSU
Grubb’s Monday presser took a sharp turn when the topic of early boos at Bryant-Denny came up.
Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb appears to have forgotten who he’s coaching for. The Crimson Tide OC held his Monday presser as usual, recapped the Florida State game, discussed what’s ahead against South Carolina, and then delivered comments that are raising eyebrows across the Alabama fanbase.
The boo birds were out in full force early in Saturday’s game against the Florida State Seminoles. The Alabama offense wasn’t moving the football, wasn’t scoring, and FSU was starting to run away with the game. When Grubb was asked about the fan reaction, he didn’t hold back.
“I told the guys, ‘Shoot, if you would’ve quit as fast as some of your fans, shit… we wouldn’t have won that game,” Grubb said via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube channel.
Ryan Grubb’s comments are a bad look for Alabama
That is a direct shot at the Alabama Crimson Tide fans. The question becomes, what is Ryan Grubb thinking? Whether he gets on X-Twitter, goes on Facebook, Instagram, or any other platform, sees all the comments about his play calls, his play design, the situational decisions he makes, and decided to come out and attack the fanbase, this is not a good look for the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator.
Alabama did put up 50 points against FSU, and the defense was a whole other story. The truth is, they should have started out much better against Florida State. Grubb’s offense has started slow in all three games this season. Even in Week 1 against ECU, the Crimson Tide fell behind. Alabama trailed Kentucky 17-13 at halftime. Florida State was taking it to them on both sides of the ball until just before the weather delay, when the offense finally mustered up some points.
The OC taking the most heat is the one firing back
For Ryan Grubb, of all people, to come out and call out the fans is what makes this so jarring. This isn’t Kalen DeBoer. This isn’t Kane Wommack. This isn’t any other position coach on the staff. The offensive coordinator who has by far taken the most criticism over the past two years is the one choosing to publicly push back against the people filling the seats at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

In my opinion, it’s a bad look. Grubb may have felt justified in the moment, especially after the offense found its footing in the second half and piled on points. But the early struggles are a pattern now, not a one-game blip, and fans picking up on that pattern aren’t wrong to voice their frustration.
When you’re the most scrutinized coach on the staff and your unit has been the source of the fanbase’s biggest concerns, pointing the finger back at the crowd is not the way to quiet the noise.
