With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, the Dallas Cowboys will be kicking off the 2022 season in no time. The offseason is already flying by with the summer creeping up.
There have been questions that have come up with the season approaching about who the best team in the NFC East is. The Dallas Cowboys, of course, are the reigning division champions and the current favorite to win the NFC East again next season.
However, the other three teams in the division have made moves to potentially knock the Cowboys off.
The Eagles made big splashes by trading for Pro Bowl receiver AJ Brown and drafting massive defensive lineman Jordan Davis. The Giants added two top-10 players in the draft, including potential building blocks at offensive tackle and pass rusher. Washington traded for Carson Wentz, who they hope to be an upgrade behind center.
On the other hand, Dallas moved on from Amari Cooper and La’el Collins. Randy Gregory left in free agency. The Cowboys also did not re-sign contributors such as Cedrick Wilson and Connor Williams.
Yet, the Dallas Cowboys are still the team to beat in the NFC East.
The biggest reason why? Dak Prescott.
Despite the roster movement and coaching changes in the division, the Dallas Cowboys still feature the best player at the most important position in football. When it comes down to it, that’s the biggest reason why the Cowboys should be expected to repeat.
I see it's that time of the year where everyone projects PHI to best DAL while ignoring the stark advantage DAL has at the most important position in the sport.— John Owning (@JohnOwning) May 2, 2022
Prescott is head and shoulders above his counterparts at the position in the division. It is really not all that close.
Jalen Hurts has struggled with consistency despite flashing as a starter. Daniel Jones has never been able to put it all together. Carson Wentz has struggled mightily over the past few seasons and is now on his third different team in three seasons.
Sure, Hurts can take a jump with AJ Brown now in the building. Perhaps Jones improves with former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll at the helm. Maybe Wentz needed — another — change of scneery.
Those are all ifs. Dak Prescott is an established franchise quarterback and one of the best in the league. Prescott was playing MVP-level football prior to suffering a calf injury at the midway point of the 2021 season.
Simply put, the Dallas Cowboys have to be considered the favorite to win the division with Dak Prescott behind center. There are a lot of factors that go into winning football games but having the advantage at quarterback is extremely crucial.
