Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Jalen Tolbert will be counted on in a big way in 2022. The first-year pass catcher out of South Alabama is stepping into a key role in the offense.

The Cowboys drafted Tolbert to fill some of the void left by Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson. Those targets will be going to players like Tolbert, providing the rook with a big opportunity to make an impact sooner rather than later.

Tolbert did put his best foot forward in the preseason opener. It was his first game experience as a professional, albeit the preseason is much different than the regular season. He dropped a fourth down pass and did not turn heads against the Chargers.

Still, he is drawing positive reviews in practice. According to Jordan Schultz of ESPN, the Cowboys “absolutely love” Jalen Tolbert:

The Cowboys source noted that Jalen Tolbert has earned the trust of Dak Prescott. That is the key takeaway from the tweet. Tolbert has the ability to make plays, but the fact that “Dak already trusts him” is important as the regular season draws closer.

Tolbert is forcing Prescott to trust him because of the ability he’s already shown on the field. And while Tolbert is still an unfamiliar face in terms of regular season play, it sounds like he and Prescott are getting to know each other more and more, which is impossible to chalk up as a negative.

When you combine the fact that there is a need next to CeeDee Lamb out wide with the fact that Prescott trusts Tolbert, signs point to the former South Alabama standout turning in a successful rookie campaign. The Dallas Cowboys will need Tolbert to emerge until Michael Gallup returns to action.

The door is open and the opportunities are there for Jalen Tolbert to emerge in a big way for the Dallas Cowboys. Look for Dak Prescott to look the rookie’s way early and often as the two build their connection this upcoming season.
