Michael Gallup is set to return to action this week, and that is great news for the Dallas Cowboys offense. Gallup has been sidelined with a calf injury since the week one game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas did go on a six-game winning streak in Gallup’s absence before being crushed by the Broncos last Sunday. Even during the streak, something was lacking in the Cowboys offense: a consistent vertical threat.

CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper both have the ability to beat you vertically. Cedrick Wilson has even shown to be a weapon down the field. That said, Michael Gallup is the true deep-ball threat on the Cowboys offense.

Gallup is averaging more than 15 yards per reception over the course of his career. In fact, the 2018 third-rounder averaged over 16 yards per catch in his last full season with Prescott behind center.

It is clear that Dak Prescott trusts Gallup more than anybody on the roster when he decides to go deep. There is a lot of confidence in Gallup from Prescott, Kellen Moore, and the entire organization. That is why it is so big for the Cowboys to have him back on the field.

Prior to the season, there was a ton of discussion about the Cowboys having the best wide receiver trio in football. Cedrick Wilson has stepped up in a big way over the last several weeks, but Gallup is the guy that truly stirs the drink for the others.

Getting Michael Gallup back in the fold is so important for the Dallas Cowboys. He makes the offense that much more dynamic, which is key as Dallas looks to make a push for a top-seed in the conference down the stretch.
