The 2021 NFL Draft concluded a couple of weekends ago, and the next step in the NFL offseason checklist is the schedule release. The Dallas Cowboys found out who they will be taking on in week one of the 2021 season.
Dallas will play the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers to welcome in the 2021 NFL football season. It will be the first game of the season, as the Dallas Cowboys and Bucs will play on Thursday night football in primetime.
The Cowboys season opener will be at Tampa Bay against Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers, according to @MasterTes— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) May 12, 2021
The matchup will get a ton of attention for a variety of reasons.
For one, it’s the first game of the season. That’s self-explanatory. But besides that, it is the Super Bowl champs versus America’s Team. Tom Brady against the biggest brand in professional sports. Mike McCarthy taking on Bruce Arians in a battle of Super Bowl-winning head coaches.
It will also be Dak Prescott’s return to the football field after suffering his devastating injury in week five of last season. It is very telling that the NFL scheduled Prescott’s return in such a high profile game.
Dallas has played Tampa Bay twice in the Dak Prescott era, winning both times. The Cowboys defeated the Buccaneers 27 to 20 in December of 2018. Needless to say, a lot has changed since that meeting.
There will be no shortage of storylines for this game. From the head coaches to the quarterbacks to the talent on both rosters, the media and fan bases will have a ton to talk about from now until September 9th.
All eyes will be on the Dallas Cowboys. The ratings for the game are going to be absolutely massive.
