Dallas, TX – This Dallas Mavericks team has looked like one of the top teams in the Western Conference during their winning streak in January.

They have won 9 out of their last 10 games as they have wins against the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, and the Denver Nuggets.

Jason Kidd has his team playing confident in his first year after a rough start to his campaign.

There are many reasons for the team’s success which we will dissect and how they can continue their success.

Let us dive right into what has been working for Dallas.

Luka has become more of a leader

During his tenure, Luka Doncic was not a great leader, as it seems his teammates could not be at their best when he was in the lineup.

When he was not on our court, the team seemed to have a better flow at times.

Over these last ten games, that has not been the case as he has still been putting up great numbers but his communication on the court has thrived.

Luka said in his post game interview last night the main key has been better effort on defense.

Better defense has allowed the team to have more scoring opportunities and more efficient looks on offense.

Luka has had numerous double-digit performances, including his recent 41 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists against the Thunder.

If Doncic and the Mavs can continue on this winning streak, this can be a recipe for success as the season goes along.

Jason Kidd’s defensive schemes and coaching

During the first 25 games, Jason Kidd struggled to create consistent matchups and lineups on both ends of the floor.

What has been different is more players who provide versatility are making more of an impact.

Players such as Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh Green, and Marquese Chriss have stepped up and delivered in big moments to secure victories.

This is due to Kidd trusting his players when he puts them on the floor and in the best positions to succeed.

At first, Dallas media had their doubts about Kidd being the guy to take Dallas to the next level.

So far this month, he has shown improvement and is leading his troops as they look to extend this streak.

It is time to give Kidd his credit for having Dallas play with better confidence and more aggression.

Next Up

Dallas takes on the Phoenix Suns later this evening, who is 2-0 against the Mavs so far this season.

The Mavs want their payback, and with the way they are playing they could pull off an upset.

It will be tough as the Suns have been the best team in the NBA this season, but do not count out Dallas.
