The Dallas Cowboys moved on from Amari Cooper earlier this offseason. That was perhaps the biggest move made by the Cowboys since last season concluded.

Dallas traded Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a day-three draft selection. It is a trade that will have an impact on the team as soon as week one arrives.

On one hand, the move shows the belief that the team has in CeeDee Lamb. There is confidence in the organization that Lamb is ready to be the WR1 in the offense. Lamb has certainly flashed that ability over two seasons in the NFL.

On the other, it is always questionable to willingly move on from a key contributor such as Cooper for practically nothing. There is no doubt that that the Cowboys are taking a risk.

Madden rankings disagree with Cowboys

While the Dallas Cowboys believe Amari Cooper is replaceable, Madden sees things differently. The former Cowboys’ pass catcher is one of the 10 highest-rated receivers in the NFL on the video game entering the 2022 season.

Cooper has earned a 90 overall rating by Madden. That ranks just behind Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin out of the NFC East.

Cooper lands on the list over quite a few talented wideouts. Ja’Marr Chase, DK Metcalf, and AJ Brown are all outside the top-10 in these rankings. That has stirred up some debate among NFL fans.

More notably, Cooper makes the list over CeeDee Lamb. The Dallas Cowboys believe that Lamb is an “upgrade” over Cooper. Madden, however, obviously disagrees with that line of thinking.

Time will tell which side is right: the Cowboys or Madden. Perhaps we get the answer early on during the 2022 season.
