Either one of two things is happening right now in the NFL to the Kansas City Chiefs. One, the national media is catching on to the Chiefs. Or, two, the national media is overreacting to the Chiefs right now. Take that how you will, and you decide which one it is.
Yes, the Chiefs play this year deserves to be shown thoroughly. However, some of this is a little too much, don’t we think? I mean, some of these websites are taking what the Chiefs have done this year, and literally running with it, making any type of crazy headline possible.
With the type of success, the Chiefs have had over the last few years, they have somewhat become a villain. No one likes when one team has a lot of success. So to finally see the Chiefs not be successful in the regular season, has to have some national media foaming at the mouth, and some of these rankings prove that.
Kansas City low balled by some national media
The media is national media is known for taking a story and expanding on it to get clicks, and some would say they are very good at it. In this case, their scheme worked, because I was intrigued by what they had to say, and became a victim of clickbait.
Some sites have a more realistic idea of where to properly place the Kansas City Chiefs on a power ranking. While it is a bit repetitive, ESPN, NFL.com, and NBC Sports all have the Chiefs ranked as the 14th best team in the NFL.
Fair enough, considering they are 3-4 and were obliterated by the Titans and Bills the last three weeks. Could they be higher, yes? Should they be, maybe not, but that’s neither here nor there.
CBS Sports usually does very well with stuff on the NFL, however, this power ranking they came out with for week eight was just lazy journalism. Imagine thinking in the year 2021, going into 2022, that there are 16 teams better than Kansas City.
Yes, CBS Sports has the Chiefs at 17 in their power rankings, which just is not realistic. The 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th spots are all held by the Browns, Vikings, Steelers, and Colts. These are all teams I’d bet money on, to lose to Kansas City.
Yes, the Chiefs are having a down year, but it is week eight. Let’s cut them some slack nationally. With who they have on their roster, who their coaching staff consists of, this team is better than the 17th ranked team in the NFL, and that is just facts.
