There needs to be more nuance when discussing the play of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has had a remarkable 2022 campaign. Cousins has totaled 4,117 passing yards (4th), 27 passing touchdowns (4th), eight fourth quarter comebacks (1st), and engineered eight game-winning drives (1st).

Unfortunately, there is a stigma around Cousins, which contorts football fans’ view of the four-time Pro Bowler.

Cousins isn’t for everyone. His personality can be off-putting from time-to-time, and it can be argued that his performance hasn’t been equivalent to his contract.

That being said, Kyle Brandt, host of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, has Cousins’ back. On Monday, Brandt went on a must-watch rant to give Cousins the credit he deserves.

“Kirk Cousins, in the middle of the season, set an NFL record for fourth-quarter comebacks. Kirk Cousins’ fourth quarter stats are astronomical. Kirk Cousins has fewer interceptions than Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. Kirk Cousins’ defense is woeful, statically. Kirk Cousins’ offensive line is woeful, statistically. No quarterback in the last 20+ years is getting hit more than Kirk Cousins,” Brandt noted.

What can’t be ignored is that Cousins has the Vikings at 12-3, jockeying for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. He has played his best football late in games and has the numbers to prove it.

Most importantly, with the postseason on the horizon, Cousins absolutely looks capable of delivering Minnesota its first Lombardi Trophy in the franchise’s storied history.
