NASHVILLE — Wideout DeAndre Hopkins will play in the Tennessee Titans (0-1) home opener on Sunday. NFL reporter Jordan Schultz was first on the news.
Hopkins did not practice due to an ankle injury in the week leading up and is officially designated as "questionable" for Week 2 when Tennessee will host the Los Angeles Chargers (0-1).
Sustaining the injury on the Titans' last offensive play of his team's 16-15 opening loss to the New Orleans Saints (1-0), Hopkins had his ankle rolled up on while being tackled at the end of the game. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed a short pass to Hopkins for a gain of six yards, who then came off the field limping as the field goal unit went in.
Hopkins caught seven passes on 13 targets for 65 yards in his debut with Tennessee. The Titans offense showed promise in the loss, but was held back in Week 1 by a disastrous Tannehill performance. Hopkins will be a critical element as his new team attempts to rebound against Los Angeles.
The Chargers defense allowed 36 points to the Miami Dolphins (1-0) last Sunday, allowing 466 passing yards and a first-week league-high three passing touchdowns.
Coach Mike Vrabel ruled out safety Amani Hooker (concussion) and corner Kristian Fulton (hamstring) after Tennessee's walkthrough on Friday. Offensive lineman Dillon Radunz (ACL) is expected to play against Los Angeles. The former second-round pick will see action with starting left guard Peter Skoronski downgraded to "out" for the contest (illness).
"I think we want to make sure that guys are getting the ball," Vrabel said. "Derrick (Henry) at the top of that list and Hop (DeAndre Hopkins) and Treylon (Burks) and Chig (Okonkwo) and Tyjae (Spears). Trying to create opportunities for them and then see how it goes."
