The Heisman Trophy is stupid. Every Tennessee fan has known this fact since Peyton Manning got snubbed in 1997, but the award is still given out, regardless.

The Heisman almost never goes to the actual best player in America as it’s intended to. It goes to the best player on the best team in America. But despite how we all realize that, just look at the absolute disrespect for current Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker in these projected Heisman Odds for 2022 that were released this week…

60/1 (+6000) odds themselves aren’t necessarily terrible because let’s be honest, Bryce Young already won the trophy once and will probably just win it again in 2022.

But look who is ahead of Hendon Hooker here.

Jack Miller at 50/1? I’m going to assume you probably, like everyone else, don’t know who that is. He’s a kid who is transferring to Florida from Ohio State where he redshirted in 2021 and was formerly the No. 14 pro-style QB in the recruiting class of 2020. He will have a brand new head coach and offense on a rebuilding team and is not even the presumed starter at the moment.

And he is ahead of Hendon Hooker on this Heisman odds list.

Also, Spencer Rattler is at 20/1… Yes, that’s the same guy who got replaced by a true freshman at Oklahoma. What are we even doing here?

Just to be clear, Hendon Hooker threw for 2,945 yards on 206 completions (9.7 yards per attempt and 68% completion percentage) with 31 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions. He also ran for an additional 613 yards and 5 touchdowns. He had the highest QB rating in the SEC and threw for the 4th most overall yards in the league. Not to mention, he barely played in the first game of Tennessee’s season and didn’t even become the starter until Joe Milton went down with injury in week 2.

So, what have we learned here? For one, whoever made that odds list didn’t watch much Tennessee football this past season (or any SEC football at all because some of the other choices on the list are as mind-boggling as Hooker’s). And two, Hooker has expectations right where he should want them.

Clearly, Hendon Hooker is being underestimated. It’s the perfect setup to have a breakout season and make sure that everybody who doubted him learns exactly who he is.
