As the trade deadline approaches in the NHL, the rumor mill is heating up. The Nashville Predators are certainly still in contention for a playoff spot at 29-18-4. They sit in 4th place in the Central division. They currently hold the top wild-card spot in the Western conference. Regardless, there is a new report that they may move their top goal scorer, Filip Forsberg.

If Nashville does make this move, expect plenty of backlash from the fan base. Forsberg is a fan favorite, and he is undoubtedly the most talented offensive player on the Preds. The forward currently sits at 26 goals, three ahead of Matt Duchene for the team lead. That’s in nine fewer games, too. It is completely possible that Forsberg could score 40 goals for Nashville this season if he remains on the team.

The trade would point to the long-term plan of the Predators. They would most likely be entering some sort of roster rebuild. It would also conclude to how the contract extension negotiations have gone between the star and the front office.

The Predators would get a very large return for the playmaker. Plenty of teams would throw draft picks and young players galore at Nashville to secure Forsberg. Only time will tell if a deal gets done, but it sounds like it is certainly on the table for David Poile and the Preds at the deadline.
