Recruiting is possibly the most important factor for success in college football. But, recruiting is also a big crapshoot much of the time. Bonafide 5-star prospects can be flameouts and unknown 3-star players can become superstars. In fact, Tennessee’s top receiver in 2022, Cedric Tillman, came to Knoxville as a 3-star recruit and was rated as the No. 246 wide receiver in the class of 2018. Stars matter but they alone can’t make a player great at the next level.

With that in mind, the Vols received a commitment from a 3-star wide receiver over the weekend who has incredibly similar physical traits to Tillman. Nathan Leacock, a native of Raleigh, NC who is ranked as the No. 78 wideout in the class of 2023, made his announcement on Friday afternoon. Leacock weighs in at 200 pounds, stands at 6-foot-3, and on this week’s Big Orange Podcast, Zach Ragan and I compared Leacock’s traits to Tillman and discussed why he could be the next under-the-radar standout for the Big Orange.
