Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker suffered a torn ACL in UT’s loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks this past weekend.

Hooker’s Tennessee career is over as a result of the devastating injury.

On Tuesday, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer opened his press conference by sending a classy message to Hooker.

“I send my thoughts to Hendon Hooker,” said Beamer on Tuesday. “Hate to hear about his injury. What a fantastic young man and fantastic player he is. Got a chance to visit with him before the game a little bit. Certainly pulling for him and know he’ll be back and better and stronger than ever. And his best football is still in front of him.”

Saturday night was a great night for Beamer and the South Carolina football program. No one gave them a shot to beat Tennessee. But they came out with a great game plan and they just flat-out beat the Vols.

It says a lot about Beamer that he took a moment to put the big win aside and send well wishes to Hooker. Beamer’s caught a lot of flack over the last year (I’ve certainly given it to him pretty good over some of his quotes), but he’s a good guy and a good coach. I think the Gamecocks got it right when they brought him back to Columbia to lead the program.
