Tennessee CB Colton Hood could get a very early look in the national spotlight with the Giants
The VFL’s new team will have the eyes of the nation on them early when they face the Cowboys on the season’s first edition of Sunday Night Football.
Tennessee Vols CB Colton Hood found his new football home with the New York Giants last month. The VFL was selected by the Giants with the No. 37 overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Hood lands in a situation where he’ll have to fight for significant reps on a Giants defense that certainly has talent in its secondary. Paulson Adebo and Greg Newsome II are the likely starters going into camp.
That being said, the game isn’t played on paper, and the Giants made a significant investment in Hood. He’ll have a shot at carving out an opportunity to find himself on the field as a rookie. And for Vol fans hoping to see him play, New York will have the eyes of the nation on them on the first Sunday of the regular season.
The Giants and Cowboys will open up the regular season on Sunday Night Football.
Colton Hood and the New York Giants will face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 1
The selection of the NFC East rivalry clash to fill the biggest Sunday TV time slot isn’t surprising, as the Cowboys and Giants more often than not tend to find at least one of their games elevated into the national spotlight once a year. No matter how long Dallas’ Super Bowl drought stretches, nor how long the Giants stay linger outside of the playoff picture, the NFL is a big market and/or name brand league, and the Cowboys and Giants are two of the biggest brands in the sport.
As such, for Vol fans hoping to watch Hood play throughout the year on cable TV, him landing in the biggest media market in the league is a good thing.
We’ll see if Hood can hit the ground running in July, when training camp opens for New York on the road in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
