According to Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans are parting ways with longtime punter Brett Kern.

Kern has been with the team since the 2009 season, and been selected to three Pro-Bowls during his time in Tennessee.

With Kern now heading for free agency, Colorado State rookie Ryan Stonehouse has won the job in Tennessee.

Stonehouse came out of college as the NCAA Career Record Holder for Punt Average (47.8), and his big leg immediately turned heads in the NFL.

Stonehouse has received a lot of praise from people within the Titans organization. That includes Kern, who was complimentary of the rookie when speaking to the media after Saturdays game:

“I knew it was different when I first saw him pun a ball in April,” Kern said of the punter competition. “I’ve been in the league a long time, and I’ve seen three or four people in my entire life hit a ball as good as he does.”

Titans fans everywhere now have their fingers crossed that Kern finds a home in Buffalo, Denver, or really anywhere that’s not with the division rival Colts.

Regardless of where it is though, Kern should land on his feet.
