Tennessee Titans Robert Woods cut released Taylor Lewan salary cap space 2023 NFL football stats news

The Tennessee Titans made a few sizable splashes on Wednesday by parting ways with two key contributors on the offensive side of the football.

The Titans released LT Taylor Lewan and WR Robert Woods in order to create some much-needed salary cap space for the 2023 offseason.

The two players handled the news in completely different fashions on social media. Lewan sent a heartfelt message to Titans fans via Twitter after spending nine years with Tennessee. Woods, who had an underwhelming 2022 campaign with the team, seemed to celebrate the news of his release.

Woods responded to his release in a couple of tweets, the first of which was this one-word post: “Free!”

The Titans traded the Los Angeles Rams a 2023 sixth-rounder in exchange for Woods last March. Unfortunately Woods’ production in his only year with Tennessee wasn’t enough for the team to eat his $14.6 million cap hit in 2023.

Woods played in 17 games during the 2022 season, starting in 15. He compiled 53 receptions, 527 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the year. While he led the team in catches and receiving yards, the Titans ultimately decided to move on from Woods, who turns 31 this offseason.

By cutting Woods the Titans will save $12 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. Woods will now get to decide where he wants to play next season but, after his mediocre stint with the Titans, his value has certainly depreciated.
