‘Absolutely awful’ – NBA star drops very strong comment on former Tennessee Vols guard Dalton Knecht before the start of the NBA season
Former Tennessee Volunteers guard Dalton Knecht is entering his third season in the NBA.
There are a lot of people who can’t believe that former Tennessee Vols guard Dalton Knecht is still on the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster.
Knecht, a first round pick by the Lakers in 2024, showed promise early in his rookie season (he scored 37 points just a month into his rookie season), but he hasn’t been the same since Los Angeles traded him to the Charlotte Hornets in early 2025 in a deal that was rescinded.
The former Vol has received uneven playing time since the failed trade (he went from 19 minutes per game as a rookie to 10 minutes per game in his second season). It’s clear that Knecht isn’t viewed as part of the Lakers’ future, but they haven’t traded him for some bizarre reason.
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green blames Dalton Knecht’s agent
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green blames Knecht’s agent for not getting the former Vol out of Los Angeles after the failed trade.
Green said on The Draymond Green Show that it’s “absolutely awful” that Knecht is still with the Lakers.
“Dalton Knecht seemed like he had a little bit of promise to him,” said Green. “But after that trade that got voided by the Lakers — it was to bring Dalton Knecht to the Hornets and to send Mark Williams to the Lakers — the Lakers voided the trade because of Mark Williams’ back.
“Dalton Knecht has just been in purgatory ever since. And ultimately, I think it ruined him. And who I blame more than anything, and I don’t know who his agent is, but I blame his agent because the moment that trade didn’t go through, that agent should have been working the lines to get him out of LA. Now, granted, you can’t get a trade at that point because it was at the 25th hour and the trade deadline had passed. But are you talking to the Lakers about a buyout? Or that summer you for sure have got to get him traded. The fact that he’s still on the Lakers right now is absolutely awful representation work. You know this is crushing him. You’ve seen it since the time he ended up back on that roster, and you’ve still got this kid in LA.”
Green is spot on — Knecht’s agent should’ve gotten him out of Los Angeles ASAP once the trade was rescinded. It’s criminal that he’s still on that roster.
Maybe something happens before the season starts in a couple of weeks. For now, though, Knecht is still a Laker.
