‘App State is where I started’ – Former Vols QB Joey Aguilar made some comments that Tennessee fans will love to hear
Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Joey Aguilar was in Neyland Stadium for UT’s big win against the Kentucky Wildcats.
For the second time this season, former Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar was in the building for a Vols game.
Aguilar, who is currently on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad, was in Columbia for the Vols’ loss to South Carolina a couple of weeks ago (the Jaguars were on a bye week), and he was in Neyland Stadium on Saturday for Tennessee’s 34-6 win over Kentucky.
The former Vol spoke to WBIR’s Emilie Rae Cochrane before the game and made it clear how much Tennessee means to him (he also predicted the Vols would win 35-17).
“This place means everything,” said Aguilar. “App State is where I started, and Tennessee gave me the opportunity to where I’m at now. I love this place, and I call it home. I was with these guys last year and we had some new guys come in. But the work that they put in this offseason and the things that were happening with me (with trying to get another season of eligibility) and how they adjusted, went on to the next man, and how they picked up and kept going [is impressive]. So, I’m excited for the game tonight.”
Aguilar wasn’t at Tennessee for long — from May to January last year — but there’s no doubt that Rocky Top is part of who he is now.
