‘It depends’ – Vols insider shares the latest update on Tennessee forward Nate Ament’s NBA Draft decision
Tennessee Vols true freshman forward Nate Ament has a big decision ahead of him. Ament is still deciding whether to return to Tennessee for another season or to enter the 2026 NBA Draft.
Tennessee Vols fans are still waiting to hear a decision from star forward Nate Ament.
Ament, a true freshman for the Vols this past season, is weighing whether to enter the 2026 NBA Draft or return to Tennessee for a second season.
The expectation from many is that Ament will declare for the draft, but a final decision hasn’t been made yet.
Vols insider shares the latest on Nate Ament’s NBA Draft decision
VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Wednesday and shared the latest on Ament’s looming NBA decision.
“We’ll see. He’s going to go through the process,” said Price. “I think it depends on where he’s slotted in the draft. If he hears No. 8 to No. 10 (in the first round), in my opinion, he’s gone. If he hears No. 12 to No. 20, I think he’s got a real decision to make. And I think that’s kind of where this thing is.
“Now, for a Nate Ament, you’re going to find the money. You’re not going to have a full roster at that point anyways. But you’re going to be able to take him later in the process if he decides to go through things and then wants to come back. So that’s one of those things where he can take his time. He can go through the draft process and figure out where they kind of have him pegged. If he doesn’t like the number, then I think he probably ends up back at Tennessee. If he does like the number, I think he’ll be headed to the NBA.”
Based on recent mock drafts, it appears that Ament is right on the bubble of the draft range that Price mentioned.
CBS Sports, for example, has Ament getting selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the No. 12 overall pick.
A recent mock draft from USA Today, on the other hand, has Ament getting selected by the Chicago Bulls at No. 15 overall.
It’s all going to depend on the feedback that Ament receives from the NBA. Ultimately, I’d be surprised if Ament returns to Rocky Top for another season, but it’s a scenario that’s still on the table for the Vols as of now.
