Donald Trump is reportedly planning to attend the big game in Knoxville on Saturday between Texas and Tennessee.
According to multiple reports, President Donald Trump is planning to attend the Texas vs Tennessee game in Neyland Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was already going to be a crazy scene on campus with ESPN’s College GameDay in town, but this obviously kicks things up a notch.
Which is why it’s important for Vols fans who are attending the game to arrive early.
This is a huge game for Tennessee, and the crowd will be an important factor. Security could be a bit more intense than usual with a sitting president planning to attend. I don’t know exactly what all of that will look like, but it would be wise for fans to plan to arrive early.
According to Tennessee’s website, gates for all fans will open at 9:30 AM ET.
(As a reminder, the final hour of College GameDay will be broadcast from inside Neyland Stadium.)
The feeling is that part of the Vols’ game plan will be to pressure Texas quarterback Arch Manning early. Tennessee wants to rattle him early in the game, and the crowd will be a big part of that.
“I think they’re going to throw a lot at Arch Manning, and you’re hoping the crowd gets into it early,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price on Wednesday on WNML’s Josh and Swain. “You’re hoping to make some plays to toss some doubt (in Arch’s mind). He was not very good on the road a year ago. You would like to get to him early and kind of see where things go from there and put some doubt in his mind.”
The last thing the Vols need is a late arriving crowd that isn’t a factor on the Longhorns’ first offensive possession. That first drive could set the tone for the entire game, and Tennessee needs the crowd to be as loud as ever.
So if you’re a Tennessee fan, make sure to get there early.
