The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field in 2024 without Nick Saban as their head coach for the first time since the 2006 season.

That storyline is obviously going to dominate any discussion of Alabama football this summer. But the big storyline, as far as the 2024 Alabama football team is concerned, should revolve around new Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer.

And ESPN seems to agree. They pointed out this week that the biggest question surrounding Alabama in 2024 is whether or not DeBoer can handle the pressure of the biggest job in college football.

From ESPN: The buy-in process has already started for new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, who takes on the kind of challenge in replacing Nick Saban that would send a lot of coaches sprinting in the other direction. Spring practice poses the first chance to get the holdovers and some of the newcomers together on the same field with somebody not named Nick Saban running the show. DeBoer has won everywhere he has been and took Washington to the national championship game last season. But every move he makes and everything he says will be intensely scrutinized, especially by his players.

DeBoer has certainly proved in recent years that he's an elite head coach. Taking Washington to the national championship game was no small feat. And it's an accomplishment that very few coaches in the sport have reached.

But being the head coach in Tuscaloosa is a much different job than what DeBoer has grown accustomed to during his coaching career. Unlike last season when the Huskies were a story that lived in the background, DeBoer will be front and center every week in 2024. No coach will be in the spotlight next season more than DeBoer.

How does he handle that pressure? For now, there's no way to answer that, which is why ESPN nailed the biggest question facing Alabama in 2024.
