The Tennessee Vols are set to host the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium in what amounts to a must-win game for both programs.

Tennessee and Oklahoma are both 6-2 through the first eight games of the season. Whichever team loses on Saturday night will likely be eliminated from the College Football Playoff discussion.

The Volunteers haven’t lost in Neyland Stadium to a team other than the Georgia Bulldogs since 2021.

ESPN’s Rece Davis predicts the winner of Tennessee Vols vs. Oklahoma Sooners

ESPN’s Rece Davis, the host of College GameDay, has Tennessee beating Oklahoma on Saturday night in Knoxville.

Davis believes the Vols’ big-play potential (on offense and defense) will be the difference in the game.

“I think Tennessee wins the game at home,” said Davis on the College GameDay Podcast. “They’ll make more big plays than Oklahoma — both in terms of creating negative plays for the Sooners, with sacks and tackles for loss, and explosive plays on offense. I think the big play edge will go in Tennessee’s favor. That will be the difference in the game.

“Now, Oklahoma’s got a great defense, too. It’ll have to carry them. (Vols QB) Joey Aguilar has, at times, turned the ball over in some moments. If the Sooners can get that, that’s the key to the road win for Oklahoma — if they can force mistakes. But I’m not betting on it. I’m going to go with Tennessee to win the game and stay in [the College Football Playoff discussion].”

Tennessee and Oklahoma will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
