‘There is not a lot of confidence in that pick’ – Tennessee Vols may not be getting the good news they were expecting this week
The Tennessee Volunteers appeared to be a lock to receive some good news this upcoming week, but that may no longer be the case as new intel has dropped that suggests otherwise.
Some good news that appeared to be a lock for the Tennessee Vols may not end up happening.
2027 four-star safety Jarrell Chandler is scheduled to announce his commitment on May 18.
Chandler, 6-foot-3/210 pounds from Knoxville, TN, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 24 safety in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Tennessee.
Tennessee has been trending to land Chandler, but the Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers have emerged as major threats to land the four-star recruit.
Miami is targeting Jarrell Chandler as a linebacker
On3’s Chad Simmons noted on Saturday that his pick for Chandler is still on the Vols, but he doesn’t have much confidence in that prediction.
“Tennessee is still battling and will continue working through the weekend to keep one in their backyard home, but the Tigers and Hurricanes have made this race very interesting in the finals,” wrote Simmons. “My prediction is on the Vols, but there is not a lot of confidence in that pick. Miami has been a big name in this race, but Clemson is really picking up some momentum late.”
Interestingly, Simmons noted that Miami is recruiting Chandler as a linebacker, while Clemson is recruiting him as as safety.
It’s unclear which position Chandler prefers, though he plays safety in high school.
Simmons says the Hurricanes and the Tigers are all in — Miami visited Chandler this week — so this is a battle that may not go the Vols’ way on Monday when the Knoxville product announces his decision.
