There’s a consensus on how far the Tennessee Vols are expected to drop in the AP Top 25 after loss to the Texas Longhorns
The Tennessee Volunteers came up just short against the Texas Longhorns in Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
Tennessee nearly knocked off the No. 1 team in the nation on Saturday, but the Vols couldn’t convert on their final drive against Texas, resulting in a 20-17 loss to the Longhorns.
The loss showed that Tennessee still has a lot of work to do to become a College Football Playoff contender, but they were also just one play away from beating Texas.
And that’s why the national media isn’t expecting the Volunteers to drop very many spots in the new AP Top 25 Poll this week.
CBS Sports and On3 both have Tennessee falling from No. 14 to No. 17 this week.
“The result will leave the Volunteers feeling like they’re not that far off,” noted On3’s Thomas Goldkamp. “The team has two of the SEC teams that are struggling a bit more coming up on the schedule, so there’s time to get right before the Third Saturday in October against Alabama.”
“The Vols played the No. 1 team in the country down to the final possessions and lost by a field goal, perhaps proving more to voters about their quality than the three wins prior,” added CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson.
Tennessee’s defense is for real, and the offense still has a high ceiling if players can just execute better going forward.
