‘You can’t let DeSean Bishop get going’ – ESPN’s Cole Cubelic picks a winner in huge Alabama vs Tennessee game
The Tennessee Volunteers will host the Alabama Crimson Tide in a massive SEC showdown this weekend.
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic thinks this weekend’s matchup between Tennessee and Alabama will be a low scoring affair.
Cubelic suggested this week that fans take the under while predicting that Alabama will win a close game over Tennessee.
The former Auburn offensive lineman turned college football analyst thinks Alabama will focus on stopping the run and be living to deal with a few downfield shots from the Volunteers’ passing game.
“I think [Alabama should] dedicate everything to taking away (Vols RB) DeSean Bishop,” said Cubelic. “And if (Vols QB) George MacIntyre can get [Tennessee] down the field sometimes to (Vols WR) Mike Matthews, then you let that go and you let that be because that has not been consistent for Tennessee this season.
“That’s where I think (Alabama DC) Kane Wommack takes his chances. You can’t let Bishop get going — specifically late. I think this is a much shorter game than people believe, and I think it’s a lot fewer points than people believe. 50.5 is a low number. Take the under there. I think that’s the play for Alabama vs Tennessee. And I think Alabama squeaks one out.“
I think Cubelic’s analysis is spot on. This game is going to come down to whether Tennessee quarterback George MacIntyre (or quarterback Faizon Brandon, if he plays any in this game) can make enough plays down the field — because I don’t think Bishop is going to be able to win this game on his own.
We’ll find out on Saturday, but there’s no doubt that MacIntyre will need to “let it rip” at times for Tennessee to win this game.
