‘I really don’t want to do this’ – Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray predicts the winner of Tennessee vs South Carolina
The Tennessee Vols will be looking for their first win in Columbia since 2020 on Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Tennessee is set to take on South Carolina on Saturday in Columbia.
The Vols are coming off an emotional win over Alabama.
And that win over Alabama combined with Tennessee’s poor track record in Williams-Brice Stadium (UT is 2-6 in its last eight games in Columbia) has led to the Vols being put on upset alert this weekend by, well, almost everyone.
ESPN’s Greg McElroy, a former Alabama quarterback, picked South Carolina to beat Tennessee 27-24.
Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who is also an ESPN analyst, is making a similar prediction.
Murray has South Carolina beating Tennessee 24-21.
“So it comes down to picking this football game,” said Murray. “I really don’t want to do this. I wish I could just not do it, but I’ve got to. South Carolina 24, Tennessee 21. I’m doing it because I love both teams. And what have we learned this year? Teams coming off an emotional win do not perform well the next week. Tennessee’s coming off an emotional win. South Carolina’s coming off a bye. The game is in South Carolina. You fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. We’ve been doing this all year. It feels like every big time game in college football, the winner loses the next week — especially if it’s on the road.”
“I love both teams,” added Murray. “… I’m just going with what history has told us this season. Tennessee had an emotional win against Bama. Smoking those cigars all night does not bode well for [recovery] the next day. So they’re going on the road. South Carolina’s healthy and coming off the bye. South Carolina wins.”
I’m sure there will be some analysts here and there who pick Tennessee to win this game, but it seems like the majority of folks are picking South Carolina to come out on top.
