‘That’s the information I just got’ – Prominent NFL personality drops Peyton Manning bombshell that would rock the NFL
Some crazy Peyton Manning intel dropped on Monday morning thanks to Dan Patrick.
The Indianapolis Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Monday morning.
And there’s already speculation that they could be eyeing Hall of Famer Peyton Manning to replace him.
That’s right. There are rumblings that the Colts want Manning to be their general manager.
“I just got this information,” said Dan Patrick during his show on Monday. “The Colts’ first call will be or has been to Peyton Manning. The call will not only get names and suggestions, but the call will explore whether or not Peyton would be interested in being a general manager for the Colts as the entry point. That would include ownership interest in the Colts. This would be the first major hire by Jim Irsay’s sisters, the next generation. So now you have an opportunity to put Peyton back in Indy as a GM and part owner, and he gets to pick his quarterback. So now all of a sudden, the community is going to love this. The league would love this. Would Peyton love this?
“So, that’s the information I just got. I don’t know if an offer (was extended). I’m sure that the Irsay sisters reached out to Peyton. I would expect that to happen…I brought this up to the late Jim Irsay a couple of years ago. I said, ‘Hey, would you ever think about Peyton as a part owner?’ And he wasn’t interested in selling anything — not even to Peyton. Now it’s different.”
“We do this show live,” continued Patrick. “And I’m thinking out loud. But you know, this is a source who just sent this to me about Peyton Manning — that the first call should be, if it hasn’t already happened, to Peyton Manning. Would he want to be the GM and then have part ownership there and maybe be the GM just to help you with the transition where Peyton’s going to help you get your quarterback (of the future).”
Patrick quickly speculated that the Colts could hire Peyton and then draft Texas quarterback Arch Manning, but then he pointed out that Indianapolis doesn’t have a first round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft (though Arch, who is Peyton’s nephew, could return to school in 2027).
We’ll see what happens, but I’m not sure the timing is right for Peyton. His son, Marshall, is currently playing high school football in Chattanooga. I’m sure Peyton wants to be around for as much of that as possible.
There’s also the fact that Peyton’s primary home is in Denver, where he remained after retiring from the Broncos following the 2015 season. Would he want to return to Indianapolis, where he was a franchise great for over a decade, right now?
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Peyton get involved with the Colts in some form or fashion at some point. But, again, I’m not sure the timing is right at the moment.
