A former Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator is reportedly joining Lane Kiffin’s coaching staff at LSU.

According to a report from LouisianaSports.net’s Matt Moscona, former Volunteers assistant coach Kevin Sherrer is joining the Tigers’ staff.

Sherrer will serve in a “defensive role” with the exact title and job duties TBD.

Sherrer served as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator under Jeremy Pruitt in 2018. He was moved to special teams coordinator and inside linebackers in 2019 after Pruitt hired Derrick Ansley to serve as the Vols’ defensive coordinator. Sherrer left Tennessee for a role with the New York Giants after the 2019 season.

The former UT assistant served as Georgia Tech’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2023. Sherrer landed a gig as Georgia State’s defensive coordinator in 2024.

Sherrer has also worked at Alabama under Nick Saban and at Georgia under Mark Richt and Kirby Smart.

Pruitt and Sherrer were teammates at Alabama in the mid-1990s.

Kiffin and Sherrer have never crossed paths before, though they obviously share numerous mutual connections.
