The University of Tennessee’s president left no doubt on how he feels about the Vols’ coaching staff after tough loss to Texas
It was a great atmosphere in Neyland Stadium on Saturday, but the Tennessee Vols came up just short against the Texas Longhorns.
Saturday was almost a perfect day on Rocky Top.
Neyland Stadium provided an incredible atmosphere — despite a noon kickoff time — for a huge early season showdown between Texas and Tennessee.
The Vols, however, weren’t able to deliver a win, falling 20-17 to the Longhorns in a hard-fought game that saw both offenses struggle to consistently move the ball.
It was a tough loss for the Volunteers, but it’s not dampening the optimism of Tennessee president Randy Boyd, who made it clear after the game he was proud of the coaches and players.
“So proud of our team and coaches,” wrote Boyd in a tweet. “They fought until the end. So proud of our fans! We came early and cheered relentlessly all the way to the end. And thankful the President of the United States came and said we were the best university in America!! Go Vols!”
Tennessee wasn’t on the right side of the scoreboard, but the team competed hard and they had a chance on the final play of the game to knock off the No. 1 team in the nation.
It was always going to be a tall task for true freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon to beat the No. 1 team in his first SEC start. And he nearly pulled it off.
