A former Tennessee Vols quarterback has earned a starting job in fall camp.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, former Vols quarterback Tayven Jackson has been named the starting quarterback at North Texas.
Jackson landed at North Texas earlier this year after spending the 2025 season at UCF.
Before playing at UCF, Jackson spent two seasons (2023 and 2024) at Indiana.
Jackson was a true freshman at Tennessee in 2022.
The former Vol has passed for 3,451 yards and 16 touchdowns in his college career. He’s also rushed for 147 yards and eight touchdowns.
Earlier this summer, a Power-Four personnel director told The Athletic that Jackson will do a “good job” in the American Conference.
“He’ll do a good job in that conference (The American),” said a Power-4 personnel director to The Athletic of Jackson. “He’s a big kid, can throw a good ball. Not the most dynamic runner, but he’s big enough where you can utilize him in that way.”
Jackson passed for 2,151 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions at UCF last season in the most extensive action of his college career. He also rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns.
During his lone season at Tennessee, Jackson completed three-of-four passes for 37 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown.
