Former Tennessee Vols star announces that he’s retiring from basketball after a lengthy pro career
A former Tennessee Volunteers basketball standout announced this week that he’s retiring from the sport.
Former Tennessee Vols standout Josh Richardson announced this week that he’s retiring from basketball.
Richardson made the announcement via Instagram.
“I always gave my best, that’s why I can say this with no regret,” wrote Richardson. “I am grateful to have been able to love this game and it love me back as much as it did. It wasn’t set up for me at any point in my career, and from high school, college, and the pros I humbly worked my butt off every day [to] be the best that I could be. All my fans, coaches, and teammates, I hope I left a good impression and a positive view of me.”
“Yes this is a retirement post,” added Richardson.
Richardson played at Tennessee from 2011 to 2015. He was named First-Team All-SEC during his final season on Rocky Top.
The Oklahoma native was selected by the Miami Heat in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft. Richardson spent 10 years in the NBA, playing for the Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans.
He spent his final two NBA seasons with the Heat before playing this past season for Basket Zaragoza in Spain.
Richardson averaged 11.5 points per game during his NBA career. His best season came in 2018-19 when he averaged 16.6 points per game with the Heat.
