2027 three-star linebacker Tre Geathers, a former high school (Providence Day School) teammate of UT offensive lineman David Sanders Jr, committed to the Florida Gators over the Tennessee Vols on Thursday.

Tennessee was previously viewed as the team to beat for Geathers.

Geathers, 6-foot-2/215 pounds from Charlotte, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 24 player in the state of North Carolina.

Tre Geathers details the moment Florida passed Tennessee in his recruitment

Tennessee was the team to beat for Geathers for much of the spring, but the Gators passed the Vols in this recruiting battle during the three-star linebacker’s official visit to Florida in late May.

“The official visit is when they overtook Tennessee,” said Geathers to On3. “On that visit, things changed. It was a great visit… The energy within the building really stood out. When I went there for my official visit, it was highly motivating. It felt like they had a chip on their shoulder. Everyone is ready to turn the program around. It’s a new slate.”

Geathers took an official visit to Tennessee the weekend after he visited the Gators, but that trip to Rocky Top apparently wasn’t enough to flip the momentum back in the Vols’ favor.

This could be a situation where Florida pushed a little harder for the three-star recruit. Whatever the case, whatever happened on that trip to Gainesville sealed the deal for the Gators in this recruiting battle.
