Josh Heupel eases a big concern about QB Faizon Brandon ahead of Tennessee’s matchup against Auburn
The Tennessee Volunteers will take on the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium. Tennessee is looking to bounce back from tough loss to Texas.
Even though he hasn’t been listed on the injury report this week, there’s been some mild concern about Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon’s status for the Vols’ matchup against Auburn on Saturday.
Brandon missed six snaps in Tennessee’s loss to Texas last weekend after suffering an injury to his throwing shoulder.
“I don’t know what his exact injury was or is, but I can promise you he was hurting and hurting a lot,” said Voice of the Vols Mike Keith this week on 104.5 The Zone’s 3HL.
Josh Heupel says Faizon Brandon will be “good to go” against Auburn
Vols head coach Josh Heupel joined The Mike Keith Show on Thursday evening and he said that Brandon will be good to go for the Auburn game.
“There are some things that he’s going to learn from,” said Heupel of Brandon. “It starts with small details. Fundamentals, understanding some protection things, progressions and reads, and you just continue to progress every single week. He’s a true competitor and he’s ready to go in this one.”
It’s unlikely that Brandon will be 100 percent for the Auburn game, and there’s a risk of reinjury. Backup quarterback George MacIntyre is just a snap away from being the guy.
Brandon, though, will be on the field when the game starts. It’ll be on the Vols’ offensive line to keep him off the ground. And it’ll be on Brandon to avoid unnecessary hits.
