It’s been a few days since the Tennessee Vols’ heartbreaking overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs and most fans on Rocky Top are still mourning the almost win.
Tennessee played extremely well against Georgia, and the Vols nearly came away with the win, but a missed field goal at the end of regulation left the door open for the Bulldogs.
And if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that you can’t give Kirby Smart and Georgia an extra life.
Steve Spurrier feels sorry for Tennessee Vols players
The loss to Georgia was so heartbreaking for the Vols that legendary former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier said this week that he feels sorry for Tennessee’s players.
“The Georgia-Tennessee [matchup] was a heck of a game,” said Spurrier during his weekly appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “I felt sorry for the Tennessee guys. They played their hearts out. And give Georgia credit, they hung in there.”
Spurrier usually never misses a chance to poke fun at the Vols. But it sounds like he walked away from that game with the same takeaway as everyone else — Tennessee is a good team and deserved to win, it just didn’t go their way.
If the Vols have Spurrier’s attention, then there’s no doubt that Tennessee is a good football team.
It’s tough one to swallow for Vols fans. But win or lose, Tennessee will be a better team moving forward this season because of that September matchup against the Bulldogs.
