The Tennessee Lady Vols have a terrific uniform tradition that was borne out of the legacy of Pat Summitt.

And with the recent switch back to Adidas, it wasn’t entirely clear how that tradition would be worked in as the university and the global apparel giant re-designed the uniforms across the university’s athletic programs.

It appears as though that tradition will continue in the new Adidas era, and fans of the Lady Vols will be hard pressed to argue with the results.

The Lady Vols revealed their new “Summitt Blue” uniforms on social media on Wednesday for their basketball, volleyball, softball, and soccer programs.

The Summitt Blue uniform look actually started in 1968 with then-head coach Joan Cronin, who had a hard time finding women’s basketball uniforms with an orange color scheme due to a manufacturing shortage with women’s uniforms at that time. She decided on orange lettering in Columbia Blue uniforms, and it’s safe to say that was a wise decision.

Of course, Summitt built the program into a perennial power, leading the program to eighteen Final Four appearances and eight national championships. The Lady Vols’ resulting success in the blue, orange, and white became synonymous with her legacy. On the fiftieth anniversary of Title IX, the university announced that the color scheme was renamed to “Summitt Blue” in honor of Summitt.

And that legacy will carry on with uniforms that certainly do it justice.
