Tennessee takes a huge fall in latest national college football power rankings despite the Vols’ road win over Arkansas
CBS Sports must not think much of the Tennessee Volunteers’ win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Tennessee Vols took quite a fall in the latest national college football power rankings from CBS Sports.
Tennessee was ranked No. 12 in CBS Sports’ power rankings a week ago, but the Vols fell to No. 17 this week despite their 24-17 road win over Arkansas this past Saturday.
CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello noted that the reason for the steep fall is because the Vols’ offense is “still a mess.”
“Tennessee’s offense is still a mess,” wrote Marcello. “DeSean Bishop ran for 138 yards to lead the Volunteers to a 24-17 road win at Arkansas, the SEC’s worst team. Alabama visits Saturday and both will wear their home uniforms in a color-on-color rivalry showdown.”
The Vols’ offense certainly hasn’t played its best this season in SEC matchups against Texas, Auburn, and Arkansas.
But it’s worth pointing out that Tennessee’s offense showed up in crunch time last weekend against Arkansas. The Volunteers scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to secure the program’s first win over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville since 2001.
It wasn’t pretty, but Tennessee’s offense did what it needed to do late in the game to get the win.
The Vols’ offense, however, will need to play at a higher level this upcoming Saturday in Knoxville to get a win over Alabama.
