2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker caught some folks off guard when he committed to the Tennessee Vols in February.

Baker’s recruitment, to that point, had been fairly quiet. When he committed to the Vols, it felt like it came out of nowhere.

In the months since committing to Tennessee, Baker, who missed most of his junior season due to injury, has started to become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail.

Baker picked up an offer from the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this month, though he says he’s solidly committed to the Vols.

Other programs are expected to try to get in the mix with Baker now that he’s healthy.

Derrick Baker shows why the Vols like him so much

Baker was on the field this week and he quickly showed why Tennessee’s coaching staff likes him so much.

The three-star quarterback showed off his wheels with an impressive run during a spring scrimmage on Friday.

Baker also showed off his escapability and his ability to throw accurately while on the move.

Baker is viewed as a highly competitive player with elite leadership skills. He’s the definition of a hidden gem, but the Vols probably won’t be able to hide him for much longer.
