A former Tennessee Vols assistant that worked under Jeremy Pruitt has landed with the Clemson Tigers.
Clemson reportedly hired former Vols co-defensive coordinator/outside linebackers coach Chris Rumph this week to serve as their defensive ends coach.
Rumph was on Tennessee's staff from 2018 to 2019. He spent the 2020 season as the Houston Texans' defensive line coach. Rumph was then the Chicago Bears' defensive line coach in 2021. The last two seasons, Rumph has served as the Minnesota Vikings' defensive line coach.
The former Vols assistant has also spent time at Florida, Alabama, Texas, and South Carolina. This will be his second stint as Clemson's defensive ends coach (he previously served in that role from 2006 to 2010).
Rumph isn't the only former Vols assistant that Clemson hired this week. The Tigers also reportedly hired former Tennessee offensive line coach Matt Luke to serve as their new offensive line coach.
Luke was Tennessee's offensive line coach from 2006 to 2007. He left after the 2007 season to follow former Vols offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe to Duke. Luke later served as the head coach at Ole Miss after Hugh Freeze was fired.
