Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Vols are set to receive some big news later this week.

According to multiple reports, 2026 four-star forward Chris Washington Jr is slated to announce his commitment on Thursday at 4:30 PM ET.

Tennessee is among Washington’s finalists, along with Ole Miss, Auburn, Villanova and USC.

Washington, 6-foot-8/195 pounds from Murfreesboro, TN, is rated as the No. 43 player in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee.

The coveted four-star forward was committed to Alabama before decommitting in November.

Chris Washington Jr will visit Tennessee this week

According to VolQuest’s Mike Wilson, Washington will visit Tennessee this week ahead of his commitment announcement.

Getting a final visit that close to decision day is a big advantage for the Vols, but it remains to be seen if it’ll be enough to win this battle for Tennessee.

As for Washington’s abilities as a player, he described himself last year as “Brandon Miller 2.0” (Miller, a former Alabama standout, was the SEC Player of the Year as a freshman in 2023).

“I’d say I’m a big guard,” said Washington to On3 last year. “Maybe Brandon Miller 2.0. You know, KD (Kevin Durant). I’m a big guard.”

Washington also said he’s a “dog” on the court.

We’ll see on Thursday if Washington will be spending next season on Rocky Top, or if he’ll be heading elsewhere.
