The Tennessee Vols fan base is easily one of the most most ruthless fan bases on social media according to On3's JD Pickell.

Pickell recently discussed the most ruthless college fan bases on social media and Tennessee's fan base, unsurprisingly, was the first fan base he mentioned.
"I have a couple that I want to get into here today, this is a not an all-encompassing list just so we're on the same page, but I think far and away the answer, across the board, was Tennessee," said Pickell. "It wasn't like Tennessee fans were raising their hands and saying 'yeah, it's us, we're the most ruthless'. It was was other fan bases that were nowhere near connected to Tennessee that had thoughts on this.
"You had Florida State fans, you had Oklahoma fans, you had fans that weren't even relevant to Tennessee over the course of the last couple of years saying 'that fan base, they will get after you'. So here's my thinking — everyone's saying it. If it's, like, 99 percent of the population is responding the same thing, we're going to go ahead and take a hint there and put Tennessee as one of the most ruthless fan bases when it comes to social media."
There's no questioning the passion of Tennessee fans. Can Vols fans be loud on social media from time to time? Certainly — they once thwarted a coaching hire (Greg Schiano). They may have even thwarted two coaching hires (Dave Doeren).
Tennessee fans are smart fans. They know all the details of every controversy/situation. And they keep receipts like no one else.
The "ruthless" designation should be taken as a compliment if anything.
