Tennessee earned its second top 10 win over the year on Saturday by blowing out No. 6 Kentucky.

The Vols’ 34-6 win over the Wildcats should push Tennessee into the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings (they were ranked No. 13 in the first rankings).

But how far could Tennessee jump?

On3’s Andy Staples has the Vols at No. 4 in his rankings.

Analyst Brent Rollins of See Ball Get Ball with David Pollock is similarly high on Tennessee.

Rollins said after Tennessee’s 28-point win over Kentucky that he thinks the Vols are closer to No. 5 than No. 10.

“I think with Tennessee specifically…I’m curious to see what the committee does,” said Rollins. “Because I would hope they would have wild swings early. Tennessee’s not the 13th best team in the country. They’re closer to No. 5 than they are to No. 10 to me — because of that defense.”

“(George) MacIntyre, for me, has elevated Tennessee for what they can be,” added Rollins.

I doubt the Vols will be ranked inside the top five this week. I just don’t think the committee will move them up that many spots after what we saw last week.

But there’s a real argument that Tennessee is a top five team. I mean, if they execute and throw the ball against Texas and don’t beat themselves against South Carolina, they’re 8-0 with a couple of dominant wins over top 10 teams.

The Vols have to keep it going next week on the road against Texas A&M, but Tennessee has a chance to make some noise this winter with the way they’re playing football right now.
