Tennessee is ranked higher than expected in national college football power rankings after loss to Texas
The Tennessee Volunteers fell to 3-1 on the season after losing 20-17 to the Texas Longhorns in Neyland Stadium last weekend.
Fans may be surprised to see where Tennessee is ranked in the latest CBS Sports college football power rankings following the Vols’ 20-17 loss to Texas.
Not only did CBS Sports not ding Tennessee for the loss to Texas, but they actually moved the Volunteers up one spot.
Tennessee went from No. 11 to No. 10 in CBS Sports’ power rankings this week.
The Vols were passed by Florida in the rankings, while USC and Ole Miss fell below Tennessee.
Power rankings, of course, don’t really mean anything. It’s just how one outlet happens to perceive things. But I think this is a good reminder — specifically to the Vols fans who are down on the program after the loss — that Tennessee showed it can hang with the No. 1 team in the nation in an ugly game.
The Vols didn’t play well at all up front on the offensive side of the ball, and true freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon had a welcome-to-the-SEC type of afternoon, and Tennessee still had a chance to win on the final play of the game.
The sky isn’t falling because of a loss to the No. 1 team in the nation. Quite the opposite, actually.
